Profile : Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan





Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan studied his M.Sc.,(1987), M.Phil.,(1989), and Ph.D.,(1994) degree courses in Statistics at Annamalai University. He joined the Department of Statistics, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University as Lecturer in the year 1991 and was selected to the post of Reader in April, 1998. Subsequently, he was promoted as Professor in April 2006. His area of specialization is “Stochastic Processes and their Applications”.

Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan was awarded doctoral degree for his dissertation on ‘General Bulk Queues’. The results of his dissertation have applications in many real-life situations, which enable the service providers to reduce the waiting time, queue length and to improve their services optimally. His contributions on this important topic have been referred and cited by many scholars and attracted a number of young researchers to this field. 

Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan has published 211 research papers in various International and National Journals and Proceedings and presented papers 181 in conferences, both at National and International levels. He has authored and edited 10 (Seven) books on the titles (i) Introduction to Fuzzy Sets and Fuzzy Logic: Theory and Applications (2018),(Jointly with E. Sakthivel ). (ii) Data Mining for Outlier Detection in Digital Images (2016), (iii) Identifying Outliers in Data Mining (2016), (Jointly with K. Manoj),(iv) New Methodologies in Statistical Research,(with Dr. A. Loganathan), 2012, (v) Business Statistics (Vanikapulliyal) in Tamil, 1998 (vi) Applications of Some Markovian Queues and Inventory Models (with R. Sivasamy), 1998 (vii) Contributions to Statistical Research (Edited), 2005 (viii) Introduction to Statistical Methods (with D. Venkatesan), 2006 (ix) Recent Trends in Statistical Research (with A. Loganathan), 2010 and (x) Recent Advances in Statistics and Computer Applications (with A. Loganathan), 2011. 

Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan has supervised the research works of 42 (Forty Two) research scholars successfully for the award of their Ph.D’s in Statistics as well as in other diversified fields such as Data Mining, Image Processing, Bio-informatics, Birth Interval in Human Fertility and Stock Market. Presently, there are 10 (Ten) research scholars under his supervision for Ph.D program in Statistics and inter-discipline of Statistics. He has successfully completed 10 (Ten) research projects funded by the National and International funding agencies under various schemes, the problems discussed in the projects are relevant to the society and for policy making. 

Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan collaborated with academic experts from New York, Sweden for a research project on Tobacco Consumption in Four Nordic Countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland) which was supported by the Swedish Federation of Commerce. 

Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan submitted a proposal with Prof. Massimo Squillante (Italy) for a joint research project on Development of New Stochastic Models for Genomic Data Mining under Indo-Italian Program of Cooperation in Science & Technology 2005-2007. The project proposal has been approved by the DST, GOI and is awaiting to get clearance from Italian counterpart. Subsequently, he joined the collaborative initiatives with representatives from Italy, Cambodia and Spain under Asia – Link Project to offer a Master’s Course in Quantitative Methods for E-Governance and Quality Evaluation in the Public Sector. 

Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan was received BSR One Time grant by UGC, New-Delhi in 2012 and awarded Young Scientist Award by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology in 1996 and obtained SERC Visiting Fellowship from the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India in 1999. He is a recipient of Academic Excellence Award from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in 2008. 

Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan has gained EXPERIENCE IN ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION as well in the UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION by shouldering additional responsibilities. In the initial days of his professional carrier, he was the Academic Co-ordinator in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University for conducting post-graduate courses in Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Applications, Computer Science and Nuclear Physics during the formative two years of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. He has been the Head of the Department of Statistics for a period of three years and seven months. He served as Principal in-charge of MANO College, a constituent college of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Puliangudi (Tirunelveli District). He was appointed as Co-ordinator, National Service Scheme of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. 

Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan has visited Turkey, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand to participate in academic programmes.

to form a Statistical Research Group to take up research projects in socio-economic, demographic, health and environmental problems, to evaluate various welfare policies and programmes of the Government, to conduct training and workshops to project managers, academicians and field workers. 
  • to prepare status reports on current issues for policy makers and planners. 
  • to provide consultancy to the researchers from various disciplines in data analysis. 
  • to have research collaboration with experts in Computer Science and Information Technology.
